Thatch is an ecological material, with natural beauty and long life. Made from thin reeds of South Africa (shrub or sword grass).
Thatch, like all other types of dry vegetation, is the basic material of an ancient method of construction of shelters, roofs and walls, which has been used in both tropical and temperate climates since the Middle Ages. Contrary to popular belief, thatch is not a flammable material: it burns quite slowly, like a closed book, and can even be used as a fire retardant.
In umbrellas and kiosks, thin thatch rods are glued on one side with a flexible type of natural rubber, creating rectangular tiles. These tiles have rubber fasteners along this flexible strip, which allow them to be easily placed on any kind of metal frame or construction (umbrellas, kiosks, canopies, etc.). The placement of these tiles on the umbrella creates different levels, giving the impression of scale.
